Dancing With Darkness

Dancing With DarknessAs the growing "rave" scene of all-night dancing to strobe lights and DJs becomes increasingly less underground, the drug use prevalent in the scene is becoming more mainstream. Since the late 1990s the use of Ecstasy and other "party" drugs by high school and college students has increased by over 70%.

The student producers of "Dancing With Darkness" brought very different viewpoints and ideas to this project. Both of them have experienced the growing popularity of Ecstasy and party drugs first-hand. One said "no" in a club in Germany after being involved in the scene for years. Another said "no" after hearing about the horrors of drug use from friends who rolled and "raved" every weekend.

This documentary, produced in partnership with the Rowan University Center For Addiction Studies, shows that Ecstasy and party drugs aren't isolated to one group or culture, and that drugs aren't necessary to enjoy the scene or life. The approach is raw and in your face. The crew shot footage and interviews in three clubs in Philadelphia. Experts and young people graphically describe the dangers of ecstasy and party drugs. Are you dying to belong?
